Following the government publication on Long Duration Electricity Storage (LDES), Ofgem published a call for input in December 2024. This document outlined our role and further thoughts on the cap and floor scheme for LDES. It included details on how we may select eligible projects in the first application round for the cap and floor regime award, timescales, and consultation questions.
Based on the feedback and consultation responses to the open letter, Ofgem and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) are now releasing a joint Technical Decision Document (TDD) detailing the regime specifics.
The TDD confirms key final details of the scheme and sets out how it will operate, application window timelines, eligibility criteria, the potential LDES capacity needed, among other technical details.
An additional application guidance and eligibility assessment framework document will be published by Ofgem when the scheme opens this spring.
If you have any questions, please contact us at LDES@ofgem.gov.uk. We are grateful for your feedback and thank you for your valuable contributions.
