Background
Ofgem is required to annually publish, by 1 March, a report detailing the:
- amount of revenues collected by interconnector Transmission System Operators (TSOs) from the allocation of interconnector capacity; and
- the actual use of revenues by interconnector TSOs over the period 1 January to 31 December.
Why this is important
It is a requirement for licensees to report their use of revenues to us. The purpose of Ofgem's analysis is to ensure that consumers in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) continue to benefit from interconnection, by ensuring the appropriate use of revenues resulting from the allocation of interconnector capacity. We assess the submissions and report this information yearly to provide transparency to the public.
EWIC, IFA, NGIFA2, Nemo Link, NGNSL and NGVLL have reported to Ofgem with respect to total revenues made and the actual use of revenues for the period 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024.
Methodology
The use of revenues is subject to a methodology. The Ofgem-approved Methodology sets out the conditions under which interconnector revenues can be used for the purposes referred in Article 19(2) of the Retained Electricity Regulation. The Methodology applies to revenues collected from 1 January 2024.
