Outlines our perspective on digitalisation governance coordination and how to give input on the issues.
Details
As important as it is to have a coherent strategic direction for energy system digitalisation, we also need to ensure that energy system digitalisation proceeds in a structured and coordinated way that minimises costs.
Architectural coordination is currently being actioned through engagement between the delivery bodies of digitalisation projects underway. Overall governance would support unbiased, logical, and altruistic architectural coordination in digitalisation. In the sector today, we consider that there is no existing body or group that can provide this type of guidance and governance.
We have set out our thoughts on architectural oversight of digitalisation. We have also asked 5 questions about the coordination of digitalisation that we would like organisations within the energy sector to give input on.
This work builds on the Clean Flexibility Roadmap and the Sector Digitalisation Plan. It will also support us and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to develop the Digitalisation Vision in early 2026.
How to give feedback
We want to hear from people and organisations within the energy sector. These are:
- organisations that work on digital infrastructure
- distribution and transmission operators
- retail suppliers
- people working in energy innovation
- organisations that provide energy data services
We will also be holding workshops during 2026 about these issues. If you'd like to attend or want to give input on our questions, please email digitalisation@ofgem.gov.uk by Friday 5 December 2025.
